n. 1. a mother, mummy, a wife;

2. the female of an animal, as แม่ไก่ - a hen; 3. a former title of courtesy equivalent to the modern นาง (Mrs.) or นางสาว (Miss).

แม่กุญแจ-a lock, a padlock. แม่ค้า- a woman monger in the market-place. แม่น้ำ- a river ("the mother of water"). แม่ทัพ- a general, a commander-in-chief.
